I find this spell absolutely fantastic for those priests that are NOT cleric or paladin class, for certain world settings where the gods are not present (dragonlance and similar) or some clergys that might be some other class, like warlocks or bards (In my seting lore bards are like gregorian monks and their spells and “bard stuff” are sacred chantings) and characters from other classes that take the ritual casting feat or the Acolyte backround (which specifies “you can perform the religious ceremonies of your deity” so I might give them the ritual casting of this specific spell)
I do agree on the modification or tunning of some of the rites, if a wedding is a life-long comittment, there should be a life-long bonus associated with it, plus other oaths or bonds could be shaped in many religions for other pouposes.
Maybe or probably even adding more rites specific for some gods.

In reply to Josiah. Bard isn't listed because I didn't realize "Font of Inspiration" kicks in at 5th level, which restores all uses of Bardic Inspiration. My bad!

I have been thinking about this spell for the last month or so as our party is racing through a magic university dungeon trying to break into the lowest chamber. Almost everyone is nearly out of spells and we have enemies following from behind and more ahead. We have already spent several 10 minute periods trying to figure out solutions to get through dangerous areas. We could have a Warlock spell slot, Second Wind, Action Surge, five Bardic Inspirations and Favored by the Gods back and that is just my character! Hey wait, why isn’t Bard listed in the classes! Alas I picked some other 3rd level spell instead…

It does more damage to shapeshifters on average because they will fail their save (disadvantage) more often. I guess all shapeshifters can change shape as an action (I could not find any who had limited shapeshifting), but that is still an action they can’t use to attack in combat.

Seems like you should be able to apply the extra damage when using Mordenkainen’s Sword.
